SANBI NATIONAL ZOOLOGICAL GARDENS VISITOR ENTRANCE

Description
The SANBI National Zoological Gardens is the largest Zoo in South Africa. The New Visitor Entrance serves as the new public entrance to the eastern side of the Zoo. It comprises the visitors’ entrance, information centre, education centre and restaurant facilities. The design concept of the building was to create a shape and form that was moulded to allow movement and flow through transitional spaces. Texture and materiality were chosen to create an insertion of the building to be nestled within the natural surrounding environment of wildlife. The thresholds were designed to create vistas of surrounding animal enclosures and landscape to create a tactile journey which allow visitors a lasting impression.
